TroyA message from our 2008-09 Chapter President, Troy Terry

Welcome to the Longmont Chapter of American Business Women’s Association.

Since 1975, the Longmont Chapter of ABWA has been contributing and making a difference in the lives of women in the Longmont area through scholarships, networking, community contribution, professional development and recognition.

The goals of ABWA is to assist members in securing employment, advance members in a social, business, and educational manner, and assist women in the community through professional development.

The Longmont Chapter has been successful in fulfilling these goals. Since 1975, the Longmont Chapter has provided over $80,000 in scholarships to women in the Longmont area. The chapter was organized and established in December 1975 with Charter President, Lila Jean Stewart. Since then many women have benefited from scholarships, networking, business, and leadership opportunities available through the organization.

In 2004 I decided to make a career change. At the age of 42, I returned to school and received my Real Estate License, as you might imagine, it was difficult to begin a new career. After I received my license, I began looking for a group or organization that would help grow my business. I looked into many leads groups and attended many business organizations but, nothing seemed to be quite right for me. In addition to growing my business, I wanted to continue to expand on my professional and personal skills while giving back to the community with a purpose. I found that in ABWA. In a very comfortable, noncompetitive environment, ABWA has helped me build confidence, leadership skills, business skills, and has provided me with opportunities to create relationships with fellow area businesswomen. All with a purpose!

As a member and 2008-09 President, I am proud of our Chapter's commitment in providing scholarships and business tuition reimbursements for women in the Longmont area. We are focused on continually educating our members through quality programs provided during our monthly business meetings. The programs not only focus on business but, educate and inform us on what is currently happening in our community.

I am very honored to serve as the 2008-09 President Longmont Charter Chapter of ABWA. I look forward to a successful year of opportunities and continuing the traditions that has made ABWA a part of the Longmont community for over 30 years.

I invite you to please join us at the next meeting. If you are seeking out new opportunities to enhance your career, business, professional, leadership, or personal skills, we are your organization. Our meetings are scheduled on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

I look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,
Troy Terry
